Three Reasons to Eat at Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill - A Steamboat in Singapore

Like hunger, physical love is a necessity. But man’s appetite for amour is never so regular or sustained as his appetite for the delights of the table - Honore de Balzac

The first view of the restaurant is stunning – a Mark Twain era steamboat docked in the Marina South pier at Singapore? Surreal.

Stunning views from the steamboat
The rocking made me lose my bearings. Hello seasickness I say. But the warmly lit interior of the restaurant on the boat’s main deck is comforting and I slowly get used to the swaying. My insides settle down.
Cosy and Comfy inside
With great difficulty and discussion and debate, we proceed to give the order. Mushroom soup (****) and Vegetable tacos (****) and a side order of Grilled veggies (****).

After poached salmon at Ikea and dosas at Murugan we had wanted a change. And what a change this is!

The veg tacos and mushroom soup - hearty filling meal
Enchiladas (****) and Fajitas (****) and Tacos (****). We want the whole deal. No one even offers to share – that’s unusual.
No one wants to share
Either the food's damn good or we’re very hungry! Both actually. Everything is fresh and flavourful. Compliments to the chef. Finally a Cappuccino (****) that’s better than anything I've had in a coffee chain; and a free vanilla ice cream!

What’s the downside? The upside – location. It's a long last mile! From Marina Bay MRT Bus no. 402 – infrequent – or a longish walk if you don’t want to take a taxi.

It's late by the time we decide to call it a day. We walk towards the bus stop hoping to get a 402 without too much waiting when we see it glide past us. We chase it and the driver graciously waits for us to hop on. All the seats are occupied by workers returning to their homes. We sit in the last row and reach the MRT station in no time.

So the three reasons to eat at Santa Fe:
  1. Location
  2. Food
  3. Setting
And a fourth one - Burp!
